The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have been called upon to investigate 31 federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) over alleged financial infractions totaling N103.8 billion and $950,912.
The call was made by the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI) in a statement released on Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, following a detailed review of the Auditor-General’s 2019 and 2020 reports by the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Hon. Bamidele Salaam.
PLSI commended the committee’s resolution, which indicted the MDAs for various financial irregularities and urged anti-corruption agencies to take immediate steps to recover the unaccounted funds.
“This marks the first time since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999 that such a comprehensive audit oversight has been completed by the legislature—an important milestone for transparency and accountability in governance,” the statement read.
According to PLSI, the financial infractions identified include widespread violations of procurement processes, internal control failures, unauthorized expenditures, and mismanagement of public resources.
“Following the resolution of the Parliament, PLSI will petition the EFCC and ICPC to act swiftly in investigating and recovering the misappropriated funds,” it added.
PLSI also emphasized its commitment to ensuring that anti-corruption institutions hold those responsible to account, stating that this move is critical to strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s democratic and financial systems.
