In a bid to enhance professionalism and promote adherence to human rights within its ranks, the Nigerian Army, through the Department of Civil-Military Affairs (DCMA), has organized a sensitization workshop for troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The workshop, held on Thursday in Jalingo, is part of a wider strategy aimed at ensuring that military operations are conducted within the framework of legality and respect for human dignity during both internal security duties and civil engagements.
Speaking during the event, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General G.U. Chibuisi, emphasized the importance of the training in shaping troops’ conduct amid evolving security challenges.
“These operations place enormous responsibilities on our soldiers. Therefore, it is vital that they fully understand the legal principles guiding their actions. Respect for human rights must remain a cornerstone of all our operations,” he stated.
He further explained that the training goes beyond battlefield ethics, aiming to build responsible, law-abiding soldiers who can serve as positive role models in society.
Also addressing the troops, the Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the workshop as a critical step in reinforcing the Army’s commitment to discipline and the protection of human rights. He commended the troops for their professional handling of recent national protests, during which no casualties were recorded.
“This sensitization is not merely a refresher but a solemn reminder of our oath to protect lives and property. I commend the DCMA for this timely initiative and urge our troops to internalize and apply these vital lessons,” he said.
General Uwa also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, for prioritizing troop welfare, capacity development, and professional growth across all Army commands.
