Several communities in Ruwan Bore Ward, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Wednesday held a peaceful protest to decry ongoing attacks by armed bandits.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the protesters, who marched to the Government House in Gusau, came from Ruwan Bore, Mada, Wonaka, Fegin-Mahe, Kanawa, and Tudun Wada communities. They appealed to the state government and security agencies to urgently protect their lives and property.
Aminu Bello from Fegin-Mahe community, speaking on behalf of the protesters, lamented the absence of security operatives in their areas.
> “There are no security personnel in our villages, which makes it easy for criminals to attack us anytime. The rainy season is here, but we can’t farm due to constant bandit attacks,” he said.
In response, Vice Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Aminu Mada, admitted that the security situation in the area requires urgent action. He disclosed that he recently survived an attack during an official visit to the area.
However, Mada criticized the decision of the protesters to march to the Government House.
> “Instead of coming to the capital, they should have gone to the nearest Area Development Council, where emergency shelter and assistance can be provided. Protesting at the Government House won’t solve the problem,” he said.
Mada assured that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is making concerted efforts to safeguard lives and property. He urged residents to continue supporting the government and security agencies with prayers and useful information.
