The Lagos State Government has arrested a woman, Mrs. Kehinde Raji, for allegedly producing and selling contaminated yam flour, known locally as Elubo Isu, using spoiled yam and harmful coloring substances.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating it followed credible intelligence from the Chairman of the Elubo Sellers Association. The report revealed that certain traders were deliberately adulterating yam flour with unsafe chemicals to deceive unsuspecting buyers.

“Our KAI enforcement team immediately conducted a raid, leading to the arrest of Mrs. Kehinde Raji, who was caught in the act. We appreciate the market leadership for alerting us to this serious public health threat,” Wahab announced via his official X handle.

Preliminary investigations show that several consumers have already suffered health complications after consuming the tainted product.

Wahab emphasized that the suspect will be prosecuted in line with Lagos State laws to serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar harmful practices.
