The Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Board has disbursed more than ₦1.5 billion in benefits to 569 retirees. This was disclosed by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, during an address to beneficiaries at the Pension House in Dutse.
Dagaceri hailed the state’s pension model as one of the most effective in Nigeria, noting that over 20 states have visited Jigawa to study its successful approach. He attributed the scheme’s success to the unwavering support of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, applauding his dedication to sustaining and improving the welfare of retirees and the wider civil service.
He encouraged both retirees and current civil servants to continue supporting the administration through prayers and to recognize Governor Namadi’s efforts in driving reforms in the pension system.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Pension Board, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, revealed that a total of ₦1,505,449,327.78 has been earmarked for disbursement. This amount includes retirement benefits, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances.
Breakdown of the payments shows:
₦875,625,045.00 for 287 retirees from state service,
₦355,025,795.72 for 158 local government retirees,
₦274,798,487.06 for 124 retirees from Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
Dr. Aminu reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to prompt payments, including regular monthly pensions, typically disbursed during the first week of each month. He emphasized the state government’s resolve to ensure retirees enjoy a dignified and comfortable life after years of service.
