The Federal Government has commenced reconstruction of the collapsed Keffi Flyover in Nasarawa State and is fast-tracking several critical road infrastructure projects across Nigeria.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made the announcement following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Thursday and chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

Describing the July 4 flyover collapse as “very unfortunate,” Umahi confirmed that the families of the three individuals who lost their lives in the incident have been compensated, and no legal action is being pursued. “We have settled with the families. They are not pressing charges. Reconstruction has commenced,” he said.

As part of safety measures, one carriageway of the flyover has been shut down for urgent repairs, based on structural assessments conducted after the incident. The Keffi Flyover serves as a key transportation link between Abuja, Nasarawa, and other parts of the North-Central region.

Umahi also revealed that the FEC approved funding and revisions for a series of major road and bridge projects nationwide. He highlighted that 360 road rehabilitation projects were completed in 2023, with inspections ongoing across all geopolitical zones. To strengthen accountability, state chapters of the Nigerian Society of Engineers will now monitor federal road projects within their jurisdictions.

Several high-impact infrastructure projects—many valued above ₦10 billion—are either underway or have received substantial funding. These include:

Abuja Road Lot 1: 118 km at ₦275bn (30% completed)
