Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has submitted a list of eight commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. This development comes just under 48 hours after he dissolved his former cabinet, including the dismissal of his Chief of Staff, Mr. Paul Biam. In Biam’s place, Governor Alia appointed Mr. Moses Atagher, a former banker, as the new Chief of Staff.
According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, the nominees include Mrs. Theresa Ikwue, Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, Dr. Ijaguwa Adamu, Dr. Peter Egbodo, Dr. Yangien Ornguga, Denis Iyaighgba, James Dwem, and Dr. Paul Ogwuche. These names have been forwarded to the Assembly as part of the first phase of the new cabinet formation.
The statement noted that the nomination is in line with constitutional requirements and reflects the administration’s aim to enhance governance. It also signifies the Governor’s resolve to revamp the administrative structure of the state for improved efficiency and accountability across key sectors.
Governor Alia emphasized that this step is part of his broader commitment to ensuring effective service delivery. He added that a second batch of commissioner nominees will soon be submitted, further completing the executive team that will help actualize his developmental agenda for Benue State.
Reiterating the administration’s core values, the Governor assured that the selection process is guided by principles of transparency, merit, and inclusivity. He expressed confidence that the nominated individuals possess the requisite expertise and integrity to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state.
