The Abia State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong support for the former National Working Committee of the party for appointing David Mark as the interim National Chairman and for advancing ongoing coalition discussions.
The declaration was made on Saturday in Umuahia during an expanded coalition meeting involving ADC members and representatives from allied political parties.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the Abia ADC confirmed that the interim National Working Committee of the coalition recognized Iyke Nwoke as the Abia State interim Chairman. The statement, signed by former ADC governorship candidate Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Iyke Nwoke, and other officials, also appointed Okey Ezeala as the interim State Secretary of ADC in Abia and acknowledged Bishop Onuoha’s role in unifying the party.
However, the communiqué expressed concern over some politicians who continue to remain in their former parties while claiming membership in the ADC coalition. It emphasized that “the only valid means of joining the coalition ADC is by registering at the ward level and identifying with the interim leadership, not by grandstanding or social media speculation.”
Speaking to journalists during the meeting, Iyke Nwoke, the interim ADC chairman in Abia, revealed that numerous Abia politicians are eager to join the ADC coalition. He also affirmed that the party is united in Abia and not factionalized.
Nwoke further stated that the ongoing coalition efforts in Abia are expected to position the ADC to win elective offices in the state in the 2027 elections.
