The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two sisters, Leadway Innocent (16) and Joy Innocent, along with two accomplices, for allegedly faking an abduction to extort N5 million from their father.

The suspects were apprehended in Jikwoyi Phase II, Abuja, following a report by Mr. Innocent, who alerted the Jikwoyi Police Division that his daughter, Leadway, had gone missing after leaving home to write an exam at Government Secondary School, Karu, on July 18, 2025.

According to FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the complainant later received a ransom demand from an unknown caller. Police investigation traced the phone number to a residence in Jikwoyi, where Leadway was found unharmed with Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of one of the suspects.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of Leadway’s elder sister, Joy, and her boyfriend, Mayowa Adedeji. Investigations revealed that Joy conspired with Adedeji—who is legally married to Tina—to stage the abduction, with Leadway’s full cooperation.

Adeh stated that while Leadway stayed willingly with the suspects, Joy pretended to be unaware of the scheme, watching her parents struggle to raise the ransom.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, condemned the act as a “gross betrayal of family trust” and urged parents to monitor their children’s emotional well-being. All four suspects have confessed and will be charged to court after investigation.
