Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has disclosed that the prime suspect behind the brutal murder of former Ideato North Local Government Area Chairman, Chris Ohizu, is now in police custody.
Ohizu was abducted in January 2023, tortured, forced to recite his final prayers, and then beheaded in a horrific killing that was filmed and sparked public outrage. His assailants had remained at large—until now.
Governor Uzodimma revealed the arrest during a Sunday service at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, as relayed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ogwuike Nwachukwu.
Expressing his anger over the crime, the governor accused certain politicians of fueling insecurity in the state and attempting to undermine his administration’s peace efforts.
“Two years after the former chairman was beheaded, we have arrested the man who carried out the act,” Uzodimma stated. “He has confessed and named accomplices, some of whom are already under police interrogation.”
The governor vowed that all those involved would face justice, warning against political sabotage disguised as loyalty. “Some people pretend to support this government while secretly conspiring to destroy it,” he said.
Uzodimma also announced plans to strengthen community security, with government-backed vigilante groups set to be operational across Imo within two weeks. He urged public cooperation while cautioning troublemakers to desist or face consequences.
“Those heating up the polity should wait for the appointed time,” he warned, signaling a firm stance against violence and political destabilization.
