First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has empowered 1,000 women across Anambra with business support funds of ₦50,000 each. The beneficiaries were selected from all 326 political wards in the state.
Senator Tinubu, through her Renewed Hope Initiative and the Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Empowerment Programme, sponsored 500 women. Dr. Soludo complemented the effort by supporting an additional 500 women.
Speaking during the event, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of reaching those truly in need. “We always take these initiatives to the grassroots. We work closely with community leaders, women leaders, stakeholders, and the wives of local government chairmen to identify the most vulnerable,” she said.
In addition to the ₦50,000 seed capital, each beneficiary received ₦7,000 for transportation. Furthermore, Mrs. Soludo extended support to women with disabilities by donating wheelchairs to improve their mobility.
She praised Mrs. Tinubu for her unwavering commitment to the well-being of Nigerian women and urged the beneficiaries to be prudent in managing the funds. “It’s not about how much you receive, but how wisely you use it. This ₦50,000 can become hundreds of thousands if used with the right mindset,” she advised.
Mrs. Soludo also emphasized the importance of healthy living, encouraging the women to eat natural foods and avoid unhealthy diets that contribute to disease. “Be mindful of what you eat—some of the things we consume today are harmful to our health,” she warned.
When asked if the empowerment initiative would be sustained, Mrs. Soludo affirmed her ongoing commitment. “Supporting women is a passion for me. I will continue to do so whenever the opportunity arises,” she said.
She also highlighted the challenges faced by women living with disabilities, noting the need for society to assist them. “Seeing their daily struggles is heartbreaking. Wheelchairs may be costly, but those who can afford them should offer support. They make a huge difference in their lives,” she added.
