Liverpool kicked off their Premier League title defence with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in a thrilling season opener at Anfield.
Debutant Hugo Ekitike announced himself in style, scoring the opener before setting up Cody Gakpo for the Reds’ second early in the second half.
Bournemouth refused to fold, however, as Antoine Semenyo — who had earlier been subjected to racial abuse — hit back with a brace, including a spectacular solo strike, to level the contest.
Arne Slot’s men responded with resilience. Substitute Federico Chiesa restored Liverpool’s lead, and Mohamed Salah, continuing his tradition of scoring on the opening day, added a late fourth to secure all three points.
