The Abia State Government has urged churches across the state to take an active role in mobilizing their congregations for the upcoming nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This appeal was contained in a formal notification to the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Abia State Chapter, signed by Apostle Kenneth C. Wiper, Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Religious Affairs. According to the notification, the CVR will commence online on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration at designated centers will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Apostle Wiper described the exercise as a crucial opportunity for eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the importance of voter participation, calling on churches to educate and mobilize their members to take part in the process.

The categories of individuals expected to register include young people who were underage during the last registration but will be eligible by 2027, those who never registered, individuals who lost or damaged their PVCs, and voters seeking to update or transfer their information.

He further encouraged pastors and church leaders to make regular announcements during services, highlighting the civic responsibility of Christians to engage in the democratic process. Citing Isaiah 9:6, Apostle Wiper reminded the faith community that good governance requires their participation, noting that the Bible teaches that “the government shall be upon His shoulder.”
