Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and inclusive governance, stressing that residents now enjoy broader access to free education.

Speaking at the 75th birthday celebration of former presidential aspirant, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Otti said his government is focused on shaping the future of Abia youth through quality and accessible education.

“We celebrate meritocracy in Abia. Once you live here, you are one of us. We are committed to building future leaders and ensuring everyone has access to free education, irrespective of where they come from,” Otti stated.

He described Ohuabunwa as one of Nigeria’s finest, commending his integrity, patriotism, and professional achievements, including his rise to become Managing Director and CEO of Pfizer.

Earlier, Ohuabunwa attributed his successes to God’s grace and launched his new book, Driven by Revelation & Inspiration – My Journey through the 2023 Nigeria Presidential Aspiration and Matters Arising, which chronicles his political experiences and reflections on Nigeria’s leadership challenges.

He argued that genuine political transformation might not occur until 2031, noting that the 2027 elections are already overshadowed by entrenched political structures.

“Real change requires a new breed of leaders free from godfatherism. That is why I admire leaders like Alex Otti and Peter Mbah, who came into office without the burden of political godfathers,” Ohuabunwa remarked.

The event, chaired by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ike Nwachukwu, was attended by prominent figures including former Anambra State Governor, Dr Peter Obi; Enugu State Deputy Governor, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai (representing Governor Peter Mbah); ex-Minister of Mines and Steel, Dr Uche Ogah; former Rivers State Governor, Chief Celestine Omehia; Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General, Senator Azuka Mbata; and HRH Eze Eberechukwu Oji of Arochukwu Kingdom, among others.
