Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has sworn in Dr. Friday Kanu Ohuche as the Chief Economic Adviser and inaugurated the State’s Economic Management Team to drive the next phase of his administration’s agenda.
The ceremony, which took place shortly after the State Executive Council meeting at Nvosi, Isialangwa South, marked what the Governor described as a deliberate step to consolidate on the administration’s achievements.
Governor Otti explained that the inauguration of the team was timely, as the government had focused on laying a strong foundation in its first two years.
“The reason is simple: when you have not built, there is nothing to manage. We have spent these past two years building, and now it is time to manage what we have put in place to achieve targeted results,” he said.
Highlighting the centrality of the economy to governance, the Governor noted that the saying “seek first the political kingdom” had over time been modified to emphasize economic priorities.
“You need to seek first the economic kingdom, and every other thing will fall in place,” Otti stated.
He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver value to the people of Abia State and assured that their contributions would be given due weight in policy implementation.
Responding, Dr. Ohuche thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged the team’s commitment to sustaining and expanding on the administration’s progress.
“With my colleagues, we will ensure that the good work you have started is taken to another height. We will draw from your wealth of experience as a technocrat, a private sector player, and now as a Governor who has turned things around in just two years,” he said.
The Abia State Economic Management Team, chaired by the Governor, comprises the Commissioners for Finance, Budget and Planning, Industry & SME, and Trade and Commerce; Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue; the Chief Economic Adviser; DG/CEO, Office of Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion; Special Adviser on Budget and Planning; the State Accountant General; DG, Ministry of Finance Incorporated; Principal Secretary and Chief Strategy Officer; as well as the Technical Assistant to the Governor.
