The Abia State Government has introduced a mandatory six-day capacity-building program aimed at enhancing the skills of recently recruited teachers in public primary and secondary schools throughout the state.
As reported by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, this initiative is designed to equip educators with modern teaching methodologies and improve classroom effectiveness. The program will be executed in two phases: teachers from primary schools under the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) will undergo training from August 25 to August 30, 2025. Junior secondary teachers (also under ASUBEB) and senior secondary educators from the State Education Management Board (SEMB) will follow, with their sessions scheduled for September 1 to September 6, 2025.
To facilitate attendance, two training centers have been established. Teachers from the Aba zone will convene at Abayi Girls Secondary School in Umuocham, Aba, while those from the Umuahia zone will assemble at the Federal Government Girls Secondary School in Umuahia.
Participants are instructed to visit the state’s education portal to select their preferred training center and to download their admit cards prior to the start of the program.
Addressing a critical need for teacher development in many African education systems, the Abia State initiative underscores the government’s dedication to delivering quality education and fostering long-term human capital growth.
Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, who endorsed the announcement, reiterated that this training is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to elevate educational standards in Abia State.
