Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has disclosed that new signing Eberechi Eze personally called him to confirm the club’s interest before completing his move from Crystal Palace, despite a rival bid from Tottenham Hotspur.
Eze was unveiled at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the Gunners’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday, with fans welcoming the midfielder who will wear the iconic No.10 shirt.
The 27-year-old, whose transfer could cost Arsenal up to £67.5 million, had been on the verge of joining Spurs before opting for Arsenal following a key conversation with Arteta that influenced the club’s board decision.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Arteta explained:
“It is very difficult sometimes because you want to be very open and transparent with the players. They have to make decisions in their careers that are very, very important. I am delighted to have him. You can tell how much it means to him and his whole family.”
