Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared full support for the party’s forthcoming national convention, scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.

The convention will produce a new National Working Committee (NWC) to oversee the party’s affairs for the next four years.

Rising from a meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, the PDP governors urged stakeholders and members to resist attempts by anti-party elements to derail the exercise.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, stressed that no wave of defections could weaken the party’s enduring grassroots support.

“The PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria to the path of good governance and national development. We must resist every attempt to derail the convention,” Mohammed said.

The Forum deliberated on the state of the nation, the security situation, the erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the national convention. It also expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of recent by-elections, accusing the APC-led federal government of intimidation and anti-democratic practices.

Despite the challenges, the governors commended party members and leaders for their loyalty and resilience.

“Your steadfastness, in the face of defections and distractions, proves that our grassroots appeal remains intact. Nigerians yearn for a return to affordable living and relative security experienced under PDP administrations, and that time will soon come,” Mohammed assured.

The meeting was attended by Governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), alongside their Bauchi counterpart who chaired the session.
