The Abia State government has called on residents of Nenu and the wider Obingwa Local Government Area to prioritize their health by making use of the Nenu Specialist Hospital, an annex of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH).
Speaking during a facility tour, Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, represented by ABSUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Uzoma Nduka, commended the hospital’s upgraded infrastructure. He highlighted the addition of advanced medical equipment, including an ECG, theatre, ultrasound, and a labour ward—facilities rarely available in local hospitals. Uche further disclosed that ABSUTH has passed all required accreditations, guaranteeing quality standards of care.
He also praised the Nenu community for their support in sustaining the partnership between ABSUTH and the hospital, urging residents to take full advantage of the facility to meet their healthcare needs.
In his remarks, the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Maxwell Nwadike, commended Dr. Chris Akomas, National Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, and the Nenu community for their efforts in establishing the hospital. He expressed optimism that the facility would reduce the need for residents to travel outside the area for treatment and attract patients from across Abia State.
Dr. Akomas further revealed plans to equip the hospital with an MRI machine to strengthen its diagnostic services and provide better healthcare delivery for the community.
