Abia Gears Up for 2025 August Meeting Grand Finale with Focus on Women Empowerment

The Abia State Government has announced that the grand finale of the 2025 August Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Umuahia, with women empowerment set to take the spotlight.

This annual gathering, which has already been celebrated across all 17 Local Government Areas, is set to culminate in a vibrant and inclusive event expected to attract dignitaries and guests from within and beyond the state.

Speaking at a press briefing following the week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, highlighted that the grassroots activities, led by the First Lady, Her Excellency Lady Priscilla Chidinma Otti, have significantly impacted women’s lives through empowerment and support programs.

Governor Otti, along with members of the State Executive Council and other top officials, will join invited guests at the event. According to Kanu, many attendees from outside the state have already confirmed their participation, underscoring the event’s growing prominence.

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Maureen Ahukwa, described the August Meeting as a platform for women at the grassroots to engage in community development. She noted that Lady Priscilla Otti had donated 80 bags of rice and ₦1 million to each LGA to empower local women.

Mrs. Ahukwa also revealed that more empowerment packages for women and youths will be unveiled during the finale. Partners like Honeywell Flour Mills are already on ground at the ICC, where skill-based competitions in cooking, dressing, and other areas will feature.

This year’s theme, “United in Strength and Empowered for Purpose,” reflects the shared vision of women collaborating to drive positive change in their communities.
