As part of its drive to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment, the Abia State Government has launched a comprehensive house-to-house sanitary inspection campaign across all 17 Local Government Areas. The exercise, which began on August 1st, 2025, forms a major part of the state’s “Keeping Abia State Clean” initiative aimed at improving sanitation and enforcing environmental regulations.

Speaking to journalists after the weekly State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at Government House, Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, revealed that the inspections are being led by the Ministry of Environment in line with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more livable Abia.

He warned that residents are expected to strictly adhere to the sanitary standards outlined in the Abia State Environmental Law, noting that violators will be prosecuted. The initiative is targeted at eliminating poor waste disposal habits, preventing public health risks, and promoting environmental responsibility.

Governor Otti’s administration sees this initiative as a critical step toward urban renewal and sustainable environmental reform. Through this door-to-door enforcement approach, the government intends not only to secure compliance but also to encourage a culture of environmental hygiene across homes, businesses, and public institutions.
