The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has unveiled its squad for the 20th edition of the World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) scheduled for 2025 in Malaysia.

Leading the team is Abdulqudus Olawale Aliu, a multiple gold medalist at the National Youth Games and Team Nigeria’s captain. Aliu, who featured at the last WYSC in Sri Lanka and finished among the top 25 players despite missing a game, will be joined by three other young talents.

They include Prestige Archibong, the newly crowned U-19 champion at the African Youth Scrabble Championships in Kenya; Sophia Ebube Ekeruche, winner of the U-15 category at the same event; and Joy Eberechukwu Nwabuzor, who was also part of Team Nigeria in Kenya.

NSF President, Engineer Olobatoke Aka, said the players were carefully chosen based on merit, consistency, and proven ability to thrive under pressure at major tournaments.

He also acknowledged the support of stakeholders, noting that Nigeria’s strong outing in Kenya was made possible by sponsorship from the Kwara State Government, NSF leadership, Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association (LSSAMA), and the players’ families.

At the African Youth Championships, Nigeria was represented by Aliu and Sufyan Boluwatife Olojoku, both sponsored by Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.
