The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released data from the first week of its 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, detailing online pre-registration figures collected between August 18 and 24.
According to the statistics, a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration during the initial week, demonstrating a high level of public engagement as preparations for upcoming elections continue.
Osun State emerged as the front-runner, accounting for 393,269 registrations—28.51% of the total. It was followed by Lagos State with 222,205 (16.11%) and Ogun State with 132,823 (9.63%). The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also showed significant participation, with 107,682 registrations (7.81%). In the North, Kaduna led with 61,592 registrations (4.47%), while Kogi and Oyo States posted 58,546 (4.24%) and 66,951 (4.85%) respectively.
However, some states recorded low engagement. Ebonyi saw just 261 registrations (0.02%), Imo recorded 481 (0.03%), Enugu had 484 (0.04%), and Abia reported 772 (0.06%), indicating uneven awareness and participation levels nationwide.
INEC has encouraged eligible citizens, especially those yet to begin the process, to take advantage of the CVR window. The Commission emphasized that early registration helps reduce last-minute pressure and ensures better electoral inclusion. The CVR exercise will continue in the coming weeks and includes both online pre-registration and in-person biometric capture at INEC centers.
