ADC Renews Call for State of Emergency in Katsina, Zamfara Over Rising Insecurity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has once again urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States as part of urgent measures to tackle worsening insecurity in the region.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the appeal on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, stressing that such a move would not mean removing the elected governors but deploying extraordinary measures to restore peace.

Abdullahi lamented that bandits have seized control of vast areas in Zamfara, imposing illegal taxes, abducting residents, and killing innocent people. “If a state of emergency could be declared in Rivers where no lives were lost, what stops you from doing the same in Zamfara where lives are being wasted daily?” he queried.

Reacting to the recent comments by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who advised Nigerians to learn self-defense, Abdullahi said the statement was an admission of inadequate security. He emphasized that while citizens could adopt survival skills, the government still carries the primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property
