President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has likened the economic reforms introduced by his administration to “bitter medicine,” insisting they are necessary to address Nigeria’s challenges and lay a foundation for sustainable growth.
The President made the remarks in Brasília, Brazil, during an interactive session with Nigerians living in the South American country. He acknowledged the hardship citizens are facing as a result of the policies but appealed for patience and resilience, assuring that his government is committed to building a stronger economy anchored on food security, innovation, and prosperity.
Tinubu described Nigerians in the Diaspora as vital stakeholders in the nation’s progress, urging them to contribute their skills, resources, and knowledge to national development. He also commended them for serving as ambassadors of the country abroad.
While in Brazil, the President expressed support for an upcoming cultural voyage led by Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, inspired by initiatives he championed as governor of Lagos State.
The visit also saw the launch of a direct Lagos,São Paulo flight service by Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, a development expected to strengthen trade, tourism, and cultural ties between Nigeria and Brazil. The inaugural flight carried Nigerian delegates and Brazilian business leaders, following a bilateral aviation agreement signed during the visit.
A statement from the Presidency noted that the new route demonstrates the competitiveness of Nigerian airlines on global platforms and reflects the tangible results of Nigeria’s renewed partnership with Brazil.
President Tinubu has since departed Brasília for Abuja after concluding his state engagements.
