The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu, has urged Nigerian youths to remain dedicated to God and use their energy and numerical strength to positively shape political discourse and outcomes.

He made the call on Saturday, September 6, 2025, during the cultural carnival of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) Rally tagged UmuChukwu 2025, held at the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Ahiaeke, Umuahia, Abia State.

The colourful event brought together youths from across the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, with eight deaneries showcasing Igbo cultural heritage through food, dance, festivals, and other artistic displays that thrilled the audience.

Represented by Chief Jude Chijioke Ndukwe, Senator Akobundu charged the youths to remain rooted in God and uphold the teachings of the Church, stressing that true peace, progress, and prosperity could only be achieved through godliness.

Highlighting his commitment to youth development, he pointed to his scholarship schemes, skills acquisition, and empowerment initiatives, while assuring that even greater opportunities would come as he approaches his second anniversary in the Senate.

He noted that his partnership with the youths extended beyond empowerment to active engagement in platforms like the cultural carnival, which, according to him, provides a close avenue to listen to their concerns and respond effectively.

Akobundu also enjoined the youths to take civic responsibilities seriously by participating fully in political processes and making their collective strength count.

A major highlight of the rally was the breaking of the mini-New Yam Festival, which celebrated the richness of Igbo tradition.
