The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing 112 kilograms, following a road accident at Gadar Tamburawa along the Zaria-Kano expressway.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on September 6, when operatives on patrol responded to a collision between a Volkswagen Golf and a truck.
NDLEA officers rescued the occupants of the Golf after breaking its windscreen, window, and door. The passenger attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. A search of the vehicle uncovered the illicit drugs.
The driver, currently receiving medical care, confessed to being a courier for the consignor and admitted to making similar deliveries within and outside Kano. He also revealed he drove against traffic to evade NDLEA checkpoints.
The truck driver sustained a fracture in the crash. Authorities confirmed that the incident involved both traffic violations and narcotics trafficking.
State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad has vowed to prosecute those involved, while commending the patrol team’s swift response. The agency also urged the public to shun drug trafficking and report suspicious movements to NDLEA.
