The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has joined global leaders at the 55th Session of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization (WTO), holding at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The high-level session brings together representatives from nine countries, including members of the European Parliament, with WTO Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also in attendance.

In his remarks, Kalu underscored Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of both the country and the African continent are strongly represented in shaping the future of global trade governance. He pointed to his wealth of experience as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency, a presiding officer in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, and his service in the ECOWAS Parliament, the Pan-African Parliament, and the IPU, as platforms that have strengthened his advocacy for Africa’s role in international trade.

Kalu further stressed that the mission of the Steering Committee is to reinforce multilateralism, promote inclusive trade, and ensure that no nation is left behind in the rapidly evolving global economy.
