President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared the immediate termination of the state of emergency in Rivers State. The decision restores full democratic governance, including reinstating Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the State House of Assembly under Speaker Martins Amaewhule.

In his address, Tinubu expressed satisfaction with what he called “a renewed commitment to peace and stability” among stakeholders in Rivers. He noted that intelligence reports point to widespread readiness and enthusiasm for returning to normal governance.

The President said there was no justification for the emergency to continue beyond the six months period originally declared. Accordingly, the emergency rule formally ends at midnight on September 17, 2025, with state officials set to resume their duties from September 18.

Tinubu also reminded governors and legislators across Nigeria of the importance of peace, order, and good government, emphasizing that these are essential if the benefits of democracy are to reach the people.
