The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed allegations by activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore that Wike’s wife owns properties in the United States.

In a statement on Saturday, Olayinka accused Sowore of resorting to “mind games” and desperate tactics to divert attention from corruption allegations linked to him.

“He is running riot about purchase of properties in the United States. Did the Minister deny that his wife has properties in the U.S.? Is it an offense for anyone to own properties abroad through inheritance or purchase?” Olayinka asked.

He further claimed Sowore’s attacks on Wike were meant to cover up his own alleged record of deceit, including accusations of selling his party’s governorship ticket for $3 million in 2019, and keeping quiet while violence raged in Rivers State.

Olayinka also accused Sowore of running his activism like internet fraud. “Is that his defense for doing Yahoo Yahoo by collecting millions of dollars from foreign donors under false pretense?” he queried, stressing that Sowore’s brand of politics was nearing its end.

“Like I have maintained, Sowore can only run and hide under Cashtivist for a while, he will get to the end of his scamming wit soon,” Olayinka declared.

Sowore, in a recent tweet, alleged that Wike should face money laundering charges in the United States if he joins President Bola Tinubu at the UN General Assembly in New York. He claimed Wike’s alleged U.S. properties, acquired in his wife’s and children’s names, were proceeds of crime that fall under the U.S. Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.
