The Lagos State Government on Monday convened a stakeholder meeting with traders at Computer Village, Ikeja, to deliberate on the planned relocation of the market to the new ICT and Business Park in Katangowa, Agbado-Oke Odo.
Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, who spoke at the meeting, explained that the engagement was initiated at the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in the relocation process. He noted that the move is part of the state’s broader urban renewal and decentralisation agenda designed to decongest major commercial hubs, enhance quality of life, and foster sustainable urban growth.
According to Oki, the Katangowa ICT and Business Park will feature modern infrastructure such as hotels, banking halls, recreation centres, car parks, a fire station, a police post, and access roads. He urged traders to embrace the relocation, stop trading on roads and drainage setbacks, and support the government’s renewal efforts aimed at restoring sanity to Ikeja, a district originally meant for residential use.
The Iyaloja of Computer Village, Chief (Mrs.) Abisola Azeez, expressed support for the initiative, stressing that the new site would boost the market’s capacity and create a more conducive environment for both traders and customers. Other top government officials, including heads of relevant agencies, also made presentations highlighting the benefits of the relocation, which seeks to address issues of congestion, illegal street trading, and infrastructural strain caused by the market’s rapid growth over the years.
