The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rolled out an expanded cashless payment system at all major airports, introducing four digital methods for paying for services like access gates, car parks, and lounges as part of its “Operation Go Cashless” programme.
Passengers and motorists no longer use physical cash at airport payment points. Instead, FAAN now accepts a dedicated Go Cashless card for fast transactions, an E‑Tag for automatic payment for frequent travellers, a VIP sticker for authorised vehicles, and ATM/debit card payments via point‑of‑sale machines.
The authority says the changes are aimed at improving efficiency, safety, and transparency, while reducing cash handling and enhancing the overall airport experience.
When the policy took full effect, some travellers faced delays and long queues as many scrambled to register for and load funds onto the new prepaid cards, causing congestion around entry points at major hubs like Lagos and Abuja.
