Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH-TH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have called off their strike following the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The decision was announced on Friday in a statement jointly signed by the hospital’s Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, in Ibadan, the state capital.

The health workers had embarked on an indefinite strike in September 2025 over welfare-related issues. However, their industrial action was suspended after Governor Makinde visited the hospital on Wednesday, where he met with management, staff, and professional bodies to address their grievances.

During the visit, the governor approved a N35 million increase in the hospital’s monthly subvention, directed phased payments of promotion and minimum wage arrears, and ordered the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s system for inclusivity. He also pledged the immediate constitution of a Governing Council for LAUTECH-TH and assured completion of the hospital’s Annexe in Oyo before the end of his tenure.

In their statement, the nurses and midwives described Makinde as a “compassionate and visionary leader” who restored their hope through decisive actions.

They added, “The Congress of nurses and midwives formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately. These measures not only address our welfare demands but also lay the groundwork for long-term stability and growth within the institution.”

The workers further reaffirmed their commitment to delivering quality healthcare, noting that the governor’s intervention demonstrated his dedication to both health workers and residents of the state.
