Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, yesterday paid a working visit to Diffa Region in the Niger Republic as part of efforts to reinforce regional cooperation against insurgency.
Zulum, who was accompanied by a high-level security and economic delegation, was received by Diffa Governor, Brigadier General Mahamaduo Ibrahim Bagadoma, and other senior officials. The two leaders held closed-door meetings focused on joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and consolidating recent military gains that have dislodged insurgents from key Lake Chad strongholds.
Diffa, located just 17 kilometres from Damasak in northern Borno, hosts thousands of Nigerian refugees displaced by Boko Haram violence.
The Borno governor also disclosed plans to build on the improved security situation to resettle displaced farmers and revive agricultural activities around Dutchi town in the Lake Chad basin, a region known for its fertile lands.
