With the February 2026 Area Council elections in view, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and the Obidient Movement have pledged to run an issues-based campaign aimed at unseating incumbent FCT council chairmen, whom they accuse of underperformance.

At a sensitisation programme in Abuja, Obi publicly endorsed Dr. Moses Paul, ADC’s candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), saying Paul’s integrity and leadership qualities make him fit for the role. Paul, who also serves as National Secretary of the Obidient Movement, received strong backing from the group’s leadership.

Declaring his campaign theme “We Don’t Tire!”, Paul promised to restore dignity, prosperity and responsive governance to AMAC, accusing current leaders of neglect and broken promises.

Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has unveiled the Hybrid Solar Street Lighting Project under the Light Up Abuja initiative as part of preparations for the capital city’s 50th anniversary in February 2026.

The project involves installing 300W solar-powered hybrid streetlights with advanced surveillance integration across key districts, including Maitama, Central Area, Wuse, Asokoro, Katampe, Garki and the Airport Expressway.

Wike said the initiative would not only improve security but also address years of decay and sabotage within the FCTA. He added that partnerships with Chinese firms CGC and CCECC, secured during a 2024 visit with President Bola Tinubu, would ensure sustainable infrastructure delivery.
