Prominent Nigerians gathered in Benin City on Friday to pay their final respects to former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, who was laid to rest at a private cemetery after a funeral mass at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Edo State Governor, represented by his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi; and representatives of the Oba of Benin were among the dignitaries present.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan urged the congregation to live purposeful lives rooted in faith, noting that “titles mean nothing before God; only a life of faith matters.”
Governor Diri described Arase as a patriotic leader who served Nigeria with humility, professionalism, and compassion.
Arase, who served as Inspector-General of Police from 2015 to 2016, passed away on August 31, 2025.
