The Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) new digital tinted glass permit system has sparked widespread debate among motorists across the country.

In April 2025, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, announced that all vehicle owners must now obtain an annual tinted glass permit online through the Police Specialized Services Automation Portal (POSSAP)  www.possap.gov.ng.

The platform was created to simplify the process of applying for, validating, and managing permits while enhancing transparency and accountability. The nationwide enforcement of the policy officially began on October 2, 2025.

How to Apply
Applicants are required to register on the POSSAP website using their National Identification Number (NIN) and vehicle number (for individuals) or Tax Identification Number (TIN) (for corporate entities). After selecting the tinted glass permit option, users must verify their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and pay a ₦2,850 validation fee.

Next, applicants upload essential documents including proof of vehicle ownership, vehicle license data page, and a clear photo of the vehicle ensuring each file is under 2MB. An additional ₦14,200 application fee is required before completing facial verification.

Once the process is complete, the system issues a digital receipt and forwards the application for review. Approved permits are issued electronically through the POSSAP portal.

The Police have advised motorists to provide accurate information to prevent delays or rejection during processing.

Despite legal challenges from some quarters, the NPF maintains that the policy will improve regulation and enhance national security.
