The Senior Vice Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Media Group, Azu Ishiekwene, has launched a new book titled “A Midlifer’s Guide to Content Creation and Profit,” which explores how adults can harness content creation for financial gain.
The 10-chapter publication delves into practical ways for older adults to thrive in the fast-evolving digital media space, particularly in an era shaped by generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In a statement released on Sunday, Ishiekwene — popularly known as Azu — explained that the book “offers insights to midlifers on how to transform their intellectual and creative abilities—be it writing, artistry, or storytelling—into profitable ventures through modern technology.”
Published by Premium Times Books, the new work serves as a sequel to Ishiekwene’s 2024 release, “Writing for Media and Monetising It,” and is designed as a practical resource for both emerging and established professionals in the media and literary industries.
In the foreword, renowned historian and professor of Humanities, Toyin Falola, described the book as “a groundbreaking work that challenges the notion, especially among Gen X, that ambition fades after the age of 50.”
Echoing this sentiment, Premium Times Publisher Dapo Olorunyomi praised the book as “another masterpiece from Azu,” commending his expertise in new media and his ability to translate complex ideas into accessible insights.
Beyond writing, Ishiekwene has also demonstrated deep engagement with the digital content economy. He has authored a workbook on content monetisation, delivered lectures on the subject, and co-authored a scholarly article titled “Light in a Digital Black Hole: Exploration of Emergent Artificial Intelligence Journalism in Nigeria,” with Professor Farooq Kperogi.
The release comes amid a global surge in content monetisation, as creators increasingly leverage social media platforms for income generation. In June, Meta introduced new WhatsApp monetisation tools—Channel Subscriptions, Promoted Channels, and Status Adverts—to help creators and businesses earn more through the app.
Meta Platforms Inc. revealed that it paid over $2 billion to content creators in 2023, underscoring the growing profitability of the digital creator economy that Ishiekwene’s latest work seeks to demystify.
