Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has instructed members of his cabinet to publicly display their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by wearing branded outfits featuring the president’s insignia.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed commissioners and the inauguration of commissions and boards of state agencies held in Benin City. Okpebholo, who credited his electoral success to President Tinubu’s support, emphasized that loyalty to the president must be evident, even in appearance.
“This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible president,” he said. “We have had several elections where the president wasn’t with us, but today we are grateful. I will not forgive any commissioner who fails to wear this cap. During exco meetings, if you’re not dressed properly or without the Asiwaju cap, you’ll be asked to leave.”
The governor also charged the newly inaugurated officials to view their appointments as an opportunity to serve rather than a means for personal gain. He warned that his administration would not tolerate corruption, stressing that each appointee was chosen on merit and expected to deliver tangible results.
“Your nominations were not acts of patronage but calls to service,” Okpebholo stated. “Our government is focused on practical governance, not propaganda. Your performance will be judged by measurable impact on the lives of Edo people.”
He further urged the commissioners to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and integrity, reminding them that their legacy would be defined by their actions. Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
