Thousands of residents and activists gathered in Aba, Abia State, on Tuesday for a massive demonstration calling for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The event, described by organizers as the “1 Million Man March,” drew people from across the southeastern region, with participants waving banners and chanting slogans demanding Kanu’s freedom.

The march, which started in the early morning hours, saw protesters converging at major streets and public squares, creating one of the largest displays of civil mobilization in the state in recent years. Security agencies maintained a visible presence along key routes to ensure the demonstration remained peaceful.

Speakers at the rally highlighted issues of political detention and human rights, calling on both federal and international authorities to intervene. Organizers stressed that the protest was strictly peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to what they describe as the unjust incarceration of Kanu.

Social media platforms were flooded with videos and images from the event, as supporters used the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow to amplify their message. Analysts say the massive turnout underscores ongoing tensions and the widespread sentiment among certain groups in the southeast regarding political representation and civil liberties.
