The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, describing it as a politically motivated act driven by opposition figures seeking cheap popularity.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said the protest had nothing to do with justice, but was instead a “reckless display of frustration and desperation.”
Oladejo stressed that the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), remains before the courts, adding that the judiciary is competent to handle it without pressure from street demonstrations.
He accused opposition leaders of sponsoring and endorsing the protests to manipulate public sentiment, calling their actions insensitive to the plight of people in the South East who have suffered from violence, kidnappings, and enforced sit-at-home orders.
“The so-called protest is not about justice; it is about political frustration,” Oladejo stated. “It represents the height of destructive politics, an attempt by those rejected at the polls to exploit national issues for relevance.”
He urged security agencies to remain alert and called on patriotic Nigerians, especially leaders from the South East, to reject what he termed “the antics of those trafficking in bitterness.”
The APC spokesman also commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a pathway to economic recovery, investor confidence, and national unity.
“True progress comes from cooperation and peace, not chaos,” Oladejo added. “Freedom of expression is vital in democracy, but what we are witnessing is a dangerous display of reckless politics carefully scripted by desperate opposition figures who see chaos as their last political weapon.”
