A group of former military personnel of Igbo origin in the United States has appealed for international backing to create a protected area in Nigeria’s Southeast.

The veterans said the proposed initiative is aimed at ensuring the safety of residents amid ongoing security concerns in the region. They explained that the safe zone would provide a more secure environment where people can live and work without fear.

The group emphasized that support from global partners, particularly the United States, could help strengthen security structures and promote stability. They argued that such involvement would also encourage respect for human rights and reduce tensions.

They further noted that the move is part of broader efforts to address longstanding grievances and improve conditions in the Southeast. According to them, lasting peace can only be achieved through proactive measures that protect lives and promote dialogue.

The veterans also called for increased international attention to the situation in the region, urging stakeholders to support peaceful and sustainable solutions.
