Two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, representative of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has officially returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin’s move ends months of speculation about his political alignment and reaffirms his close ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite the enduring influence of his former mentor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Speaking to a large crowd of supporters who welcomed him in his hometown of Kofa on Monday, Jibrin described his return to the APC as a deliberate decision to “avoid the mistakes of the past.” He pledged to mobilize his supporters to leave the NNPP and ensure a decisive victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Jibrin said he had gathered about 2,000 Islamic clerics from his constituency to offer prayers for President Tinubu, as well as for peace and development in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria at large.

After addressing his supporters, the former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations shared a video on his verified social media accounts showing jubilant constituents celebrating his return to the APC and pledging support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

“Today, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa, Bebeji. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” Jibrin wrote.

Jibrin, who previously served as spokesperson for the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate and was a key figure in the Kwankwasiyya movement, had initially worked to facilitate Kwankwaso’s return to the APC. He even met President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa to express his commitment to persuading Kwankwaso to rejoin the ruling party. However, this plan reportedly faced opposition from some APC stakeholders in Kano.

His efforts ultimately led to disciplinary action from the NNPP, which expelled him for alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues. Accepting the expulsion, Jibrin vowed to continue his political journey on a new platform, a promise he has now fulfilled by rejoining the APC.
