Abia State 2027 governorship aspirant, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, has restated his strong commitment to driving development and meaningful progress across the state.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, Kalu stressed that Abia’s transformation requires honest leadership, a people-centred agenda, and strategic investment in sectors that directly affect daily life in communities.

He pointed out that Abia State has significant human and economic potential that can be unlocked through clear vision, structured planning and consistent execution of development-oriented policies. According to him, no society can advance without deliberate investments in infrastructure, community empowerment and strong public institutions.

“My commitment to Abia’s growth is not about politics but a sincere desire to see our state reach its full potential,” he said. “We have the talent, resources and resilient spirit needed to rebuild and reposition Abia. What we need is leadership that is ready to work and remain accountable to the people.”

A major pillar of Kalu’s development blueprint is the strengthening of local governments, which he described as the bedrock of sustainable progress. He emphasized that rural areas cannot flourish if local councils lack funding or autonomy, and he pledged to restore both administrative and financial independence to them.

“As governor, I will ensure every local government receives its full statutory allocation promptly and transparently so they can provide essential services at the grassroots,” he said. “When councils are empowered, rural roads get better, health centres become functional, agriculture thrives and communities experience real growth.”

Kalu also underscored the need to revive key sectors such as agriculture, small-scale industries and youth-driven enterprises. He argued that meaningful development can only be achieved when opportunities are expanded for young people and rural residents, rather than being concentrated in urban centres.

“Our youths need opportunities that reflect their energy and creativity,” he noted. “We must support farmers, artisans, innovators and small business owners. Abia can become a productive hub if development reaches the places where people actually live and work.”

He further assured that education, healthcare and infrastructure renewal will form core components of his agenda, promising a leadership style rooted in transparency, accountability and measurable outcomes.

“Abia deserves restoration and a future built on integrity and hard work,” Kalu added. “I am committed to working with communities, traditional leaders, youth groups and professionals to move our state forward.”
