MOUAU Names Professor Ursula Akanwa as New Vice-Chancellor in Historic Leadership Shift

Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa has been appointed as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, marking a significant moment in the institution’s history.

The decision was reached by the university’s governing council following a competitive selection process. Her emergence is particularly notable as she becomes the first woman to lead the university since its establishment.

Prior to her appointment, Akanwa served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor overseeing Research and Development. With a strong background in Educational Measurement and Evaluation, she is recognized for her contributions to academia, research, and university administration.

She is set to assume office in March 2026, taking over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, as expectations rise for progressive leadership and continued growth within the institution.
