Nigeria Raises Alarm Over Youth Table Tennis Team Visa Denial

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has formally raised concerns after its youth players were denied entry visas for the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania. The Nigerian team, which had qualified for the boys’ U‑19 and U‑15 events, was forced to withdraw due to the visa refusal.

In a statement, NTTF President Adesoji Tayo described the denial as unfair and discriminatory, emphasizing that it contradicts the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and global sportsmanship that international competitions are meant to uphold.

The federation highlighted that the refusal came after weeks of intensive preparation by the athletes and coaches, resulting in wasted effort and resources. It also stressed that the team should not bear any financial liability for accommodations or arrangements already made.

With Nigeria’s withdrawal, Egypt and Tunisia have taken its place in the affected categories. The NTTF urged the ITTF to address such visa issues promptly, warning that continued barriers could hinder Africa’s representation and the development of young talents on the global stage.
