A woman lost her life on Wednesday during an attack on a convoy associated with former Anambra State governor and ex–Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The incident occurred along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former spokesperson, the convoy was ambushed by armed men dressed in what appeared to be security uniforms. He confirmed that Ngige was not part of the convoy when the attack happened. A police officer in the lead vehicle sustained injuries, and his weapon and uniform were taken.

Chukwuelobe said the woman was shot while attempting to record the incident. He added that a shop owner who rushed out to check the commotion was also hit but is receiving medical care and expected to recover.

He noted that all injured persons are being treated, and Ngige has expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased woman.

The Anambra police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, also confirmed the attack and stated that officers later recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV reportedly taken by the gunmen.
