Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has welcomed the Federal Government’s approval of international status for Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, describing the upgrade as a major boost for trade, tourism, and economic growth in the state.

The Federal Government officially granted the airport full international flight operations on November 27, 2025, following discussions between Governor Eno and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Inaugurated in 2009, Victor Attah International Airport has primarily handled domestic flights connecting Uyo to major Nigerian cities. With the new status, the airport is now authorised to receive international airlines and operate cross-border flights, positioning Akwa Ibom as a direct gateway to the world.

Governor Eno revealed that full international operations are expected to begin by the first quarter of 2026. He emphasized that the upgrade would stimulate economic activities, create jobs, and attract both tourism and business investments to the state.

Eno further noted that Akwa Ibom’s flagship airline, Ibom Air, is poised to expand operations and collaborate with international carriers. He described the achievement as the result of persistent efforts to develop a robust aviation ecosystem and strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government.
