NCWS Applauds Marwa’s Reappointment, Pledges Partnership in Nigeria’s Anti-Drug Fight

The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reappointing Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman/CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term. The Council believes this decision will strengthen ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Nigeria.

NCWS National President, Princess Edna Azura, made the commendation during a courtesy visit to Marwa at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. She called for closer collaboration between the women’s group and the agency, emphasizing joint sensitization programs in schools, markets, and communities, as well as training for women leaders in drug prevention, treatment, and care.

Princess Azura described Marwa’s leadership as transformative, highlighting the NDLEA’s achievements under his guidance. “From dismantling major drug networks to intercepting record quantities of illicit substances, improving intelligence operations, and expanding preventive education, your leadership has brought hope to millions of families, especially women and children affected by drug-related challenges,” she said. She stressed that NCWS has been actively mobilizing women, mothers, and community leaders in the fight against substance abuse and looks forward to enhancing these efforts through strategic partnership with the NDLEA.

Responding, Marwa welcomed the collaboration, stressing that tackling Nigeria’s drug problem requires the involvement of society at large. “With around 15 million drug users nationwide, the government cannot fight this alone. NCWS is a key partner because of your reach and influence over families,” he said. He assured the Council that NDLEA would provide Drug Use Prevention, Treatment, and Care (DPTC) training to equip them for community outreach in 2026, while also encouraging their participation in initiatives like drug integrity testing for couples to prevent substance abuse and promote early detection.
