The Secretary to the Abia State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, has received approval from Governor Alex Otti to embark on a leave of absence in order to attend to pressing domestic matters that require his physical presence in Canada.
Governor Otti announced the development during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, December 8, 2025.
According to the Governor, the demanding nature of the SSG’s office made it impractical to persuade Professor Kalu to work remotely. He expressed appreciation for the outstanding services rendered by the SSG and wished him well as he begins his leave.
In his remarks to the Executive Council, Professor Kalu thanked Governor Otti for the privilege of serving in an administration that has restored pride to the people of Abia. He assured his colleagues that he would continue to support the state’s development even from afar.
Reflecting on his journey, Professor Kalu said, “Growing up, I envisioned a simple and private life with modest ambitions. But looking at what I have achieved, I can only thank God for His grace. Above all, having the opportunity to serve in a government that has wiped the tears of Abians and restored their pride has been a dream come true. I remain grateful to Governor Otti for his support.”
Before his appointment, Professor Kalu was a Senior University Don in Canada. He took a leave of absence to join Governor Otti’s campaign team and was subsequently appointed SSG following the Governor’s electoral victory.
Professor Kalu, a distinguished Chartered Accountant, hails from Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.
